The Holocaust Memorial Day
In May, Tal Valentine, a member of the Akko Educators' kibbutz, gathered together a team of seven members to plan and coordinate an experiential exhibition about the story of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising for the Akko residents. Later on, this team trained all 60 of the Akko Educators' Kibbutz teachers and educators' to lead this exhibition. Over three days, some 700 Jewish and Arab local residents and students visited the exhibition, which emphasizes on the story of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising as an example of Jewish courage inspiring to the whole world, and introduces the Arab population to the story of the Jewish people.
The Mayor of Akko, Shimon Lankri, also visited the exhibition as he does every year to endorse the initiative and to go through it himself. After three days, a group of 40 gap-year volunteers who work in Akko got together to discuss their own educational work in the city towards Holocaust commemoration. Tal's description of this encounter:
"It was a powerful and moving evening, I was so privileged to lead this event and meet such idealistic, inspiring and passionate young men and women who wish to devote themselves to better the city of Akko and the Galilee region".
