Lionesses of Akko Ring in the New Year
The Lionesses of Akko , a women’s group consisting primarily of young immigrant mothers facilitated by members of the Educators’ Kibbutz, held a special event to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
After the traditional blessings on challah and apples dipped in honey, each member shared their own blessing for the group. They reflected on their experiences so far and what they wish for the group in the year to come. Kibbutz members Shelly and Inbal also wrote a blessing in Hebrew, which they had translated into Russian.
“Dear Lionesses of Akko,
We first met each other six months ago. Back then, we didn’t know where this would lead. We didn’t know if you would choose to keep attending, if it would be of interest to you, if you would enjoy it. You kept on coming, and this truly moved us. We understood that this group is a good thing, that we all look forward to it every week. We understood that this group is a place where we can have fun, let down our guard, find new friends.
As we move into the new year, we wish for everyone first and foremost to love life, love yourselves, love each other. We wish us new discoveries, about the world and about ourselves. We wish for the group to keep meeting and to continue to be meaningful for all of us. We wish all of us renewal and excitement, and responsibility for the city of Akko. We wish for this group to be a place of light and beauty inside the city we share.”
Building on the great success of the women’s group, the Akko Educators’ Kibbutz is developing a significant expansion of the Lionesses of Akko activities. For more information on this exciting and important project, watch this space.
